Commemorating Day of Hamedan: Iran’s oldest city

iFilm English website has introduced the Iranian province of Hamedan in the national commemoration day of this ancient city.

Under the pretext of the national commemoration day of the Iranian province of Hamedan which was held on August 23, iFilm English website has introduced this ancient city with a bright history and lots of historic remains.

Dating back to over 3,000 years ago, Hamedan, located on the slopes of the Alvand Mountain, is among the oldest Iranian cities, being always the breeding ground for business and science.

Having lots of historic and cultural centers, Hamedan is known as the fifth city of the country in terms of tourist attractions; and the tomb of Avicenna is regarded as its symbol and the symbol of Iran’s history in the world of culture and science.  

Since the tomb of Abu Ali Sina, a Persian polymath, is located in the city, his birth anniversary is being called the Day of Physician as well as Day of Hamedan on Shahrivar 1 (August 23).

Interesting to know that the city was also one of the magnificent capitals of the country at the time of the Achaemenid, Parthian, Sassanid and Seljuk.

The city has been the birthplace of prominent figures and poets such as Rashid al-Din Fazlullah Hamedani, Seyyed Jamal-Ul-Din Hosseini Asadabadi, Kaleem Kashani, Ain al-Ghozat Hamedani, Baba Taher Hamedani, Mirzadeh Eshghi Hamedani, and Moftoon Hamedani.

In 2006, the Iranian parliament announced that Hamedan is the capital of history and civilization of Iran.

The stolen Lion, the Saint Mary Church, the Tomb of Esther and Mordechai, the Dome of Mir Seyyed Ali Hamedani, Ali Sadr Cave, Ganj Nameh inscription, Baba Taher monument and Qorban Tower are among the outstanding sites in Hamedan Province.
